RazorLame is a graphical front-end to Lame. Lame decodes perfectly (see the review of lame), but only runs under DOS. RazorLame allows you to control it using a friendly windows interface.

How to install and run RazorLame

(If you don't have Winzip, download and install it from www.winzip.com.)

  1. Download lame.zip. You can choose to open it from current location if you wish...

  2. Unzip lame.zip, extracting all the files to a single, new folder. I suggest C:\Program Files\lame\
This process will start automatically if you open lame.zip as shown above.

Unregistered versions of Winzip require you to click "I Agree" to the user license - do so.

    Choose Winzip Classic mode
If Winzip starts in "Wizard" mode, select "Winzip Classic" mode

    Extract the files
    Click extract

    select an extraction directory
Type C:\Program Files\lame\ into the "Extract to:" box,
then click the "Extract" button, top right.

  3. Drag RazorLame.exe onto your desktop, thus creating a shortcut.

Drag the file to the desktop
Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, open the folder C:\Program Files\lame\, and drag Razorlame.exe to the desktop
(The ".exe" extension may not be visible on your system - this is not a problem)

  4. Double click on this shortcut to run RazorLame

    Double click on RazorLame.exe
Double click on "Shortcut to Razorlame.exe"

  5. Click "Choose Files" and select the mp3 files you wish to decode

    Click Choose files
Click Choose files, then select the mp3s you wish to decode

  6. Click "Decode"

    Click Decode
    Click Decode

That's it!

If you want your decoded .wavs to go to a different directory from the one containing the original mp3s, click "Options", and specify an Output directory before step 6.

Once RazorLame is installed on your PC (steps 1-3) you only need to perform steps 4-6 each time you wish to decode mp3s.
